DisplayPort first appeared in 2006 DisplayPort has typically offered higher maximum bandwidth than HDMI as well, and while HDMI 2.1 does beat DisplayPort 1.4, DisplayPort 2.0 regains.
Make sure your Display is set to correct HDMI input. You will need an Active Converter that can correctly convert the signal. It is not compatible with the DVI/ Display port or other non-HDMI monitors, even with an adapter.
